Top 5 ecommerce events latin america

For international businesses looking to target Latin American consumers, it is crucial to comprehend the significant shopping events and months that can drive more sales. As a result, we have identified some of the most important eCommerce events in Latin America that your business should undoubtedly participate in to enhance international sales. Let’s take a look at them!

1. Consumers Day

Consumer Day, celebrated annually on March 15, is one of the most pivotal dates for Brazilian retail. What initially began as a single day of discounts has now evolved into an entire week filled with compelling deals. In 2023, this event generated nearly $1.5 billion in sales within just a week. Despite its current commercial success, it’s worth noting that Consumer Day was not created with commercial intentions. Instead, it originated as a day dedicated to recognizing the significance and rights of Brazilian consumers.

Today, virtually all stores and marketplaces actively participate in this event, drawing in millions of online consumers.

2. Dia Dos Namorados

Unlike the United States, where Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14th, Brazilians observe ‘Dia Dos Namorados‘ (Lovers Day) on June 12th. The origin of Dia Dos Namorados can be traced back to an initiative by retailers in São Paulo. In 1949, these merchants collaborated on a clever idea to boost sales by creating a special day to honor love. Over time, it has evolved into a commercial day featuring various offers and promotions. Typically, promotions kick off three weeks before Dia Dos Namorados, with the peak of online sales occurring two weeks in advance. Popular products during this period include perfumes, fragrances, personal care items, apparel, makeup, shoes, and watches.

3. HOT Sale

The Hot Sale campaign stands out as one of the largest online shopping events in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile. Throughout May, numerous stores and marketplaces offer extensive discounts online. This event spans a week, with the duration varying by country. In 2023, the Hot Sale in Argentina occurred from May 8th to 10th, while in Mexico, it ran from May 29th to June 6th. To grasp the scale of this event, consider that in Mexico alone, the Hot Sale campaign recorded 1.7 billion USD in online sales. This figure marked a 29% increase compared to 2022, according to Nielsen & AMVO.

4. El Buen Fin

El Buen Fin stands as Mexico’s premier retail event, drawing inspiration from Black Friday and taking place on the weekend following Mexican Revolution Day. In 2024, this event is scheduled from November 15 to 18. Conceived as an initiative to stimulate the economy and provide Mexicans the opportunity to make purchases at significantly reduced prices, El Buen Fin has evolved into a major shopping extravaganza.

Throughout El Buen Fin, stores and marketplaces unveil discounts ranging from 50% to 70%, coupled with enticing offers such as interest-free monthly payments, free shipping, and other promotions. According to AMVO, purchase intent remains high, with over 8 out of 10 Mexicans expressing their eagerness to make purchases during this period.

5. Black Friday

In recent years, Black Friday has become the premier online shopping event in Latin America. Even though Latin Americans do not celebrate Thanksgiving, the official date coincides with that in the U.S., falling on the Friday after Thanksgiving Day.

The escalating popularity of Black Friday and the increasing trust Latin Americans place in e-commerce have led to remarkable sales figures, surpassing $10 billion. According to Conversion, purchase intent in Brazil has surged by 10% compared to previous editions, with over 90% of consumers expressing interest in seizing Black Friday deals.
